Dynamic fatigue testing machines for determining durability

Zwick's product range includes a variety of dynamic and fatigue testing machines for determining the durability of components or complete products. The products range from single testing actuators to servohydraulic testing machines for multi-axial fatigue tests. These dynamic and fatigue testing systems are available in a force range from 5 to 2500 kN. Also available from Zwick are Vibrophores for determination of fatigue strength. Durability can be determined for the tensile and compression limits of the component, as well as for the torsion limit.

    • Servo-hydraulic testing machines

      • HA series: 50 to 500 kN

The HA range consists of a classical servohydraulic testing machine with a testing actuator mounted in the lower crosshead. These servohydraulic testing machines are particularly suitable for determining material properties under cyclic loading (fatigue test), e.g. fracture mechanics, LCF (Low Cycle Fatigue).

General fatigue tests are described in DIN 50100. ASTM E466 describes for example fatigue tests on metals, while EN 15630 describes fatigue tests on concrete-reinforcing steel.

      • HB Series: 50 to 2500 kN

HB servohydraulic testing machines for dynamic tests have the testing actuator mounted on the upper crosshead for maximum versatility Particularly with the optional T-slotted platform, flexure and component tests can be performed in addition to standard fatigue tests.

      • HC series: 10 to 25 kN

The compact HC table-top testing machines are great space-savers. With the testing actuator mounted in the upper crosshead and the series-standard T-slotted platform, flexure and component tests can be performed in addition to standard tests.

      • HTM high-speed testing machines from 25 to 160 kN

Among other factors, the fracture behavior of many materials is dependent on the loading rate. Numerical calculation of crash safety requires relevant data and constitutive equations. Zwick's HTM servohydraulic high-speed testing machines allow strain-rate-dependent characteristic values to be determined over a wide speed range.

    • Vibrophores for determination of durability

Vibrophores are used to determine material and component durability with regard to fatigue life and fatigue limit, for example via fatigue testing to DIN 50100 (S-N curve) under tensile, compression, pulsating and alternating loads.

Typical applications are fracture mechanics tests on CT and SEB specimens, pre-cracking specimens, fatigue and durability tests on components (e.g. threaded fasteners and springs), and production and quality control of components exposed to dynamic loads during their working lives.

    • LTM electro-dynamic testing machine

Electro-dynamic testing machines are used to determine material and component fatigue strength in the areas of fatigue life and fatigue limit.

Thanks to oil-free drive technology and simple installation, they are ideal for use in medical engineering but also in R&D. Typical examples are tests for hip joints and knee or dental implants. Other applications are tests on standard plastics and composites test specimens as well as aluminum and plastics CT and SEB specimens.
